Liver Surgery - Post Op - Day 9
Didn't want to leave everyone in the dark on how Christian is doing, so here is a quick update.
She has some fatigue and tiredness. It is definitely present. I would say it is comparable to a chemo treatment week.

That fatigue and tiredness is there somewhat because her body is trying to re-grow her liver of course.
The other part of it, is not getting 100% normal rest. She is definitely getting rest, but it may be in 2-3 hour segments. She doesn't go to bed, and sleep for 8 hours. She will try to go to bed, and end up moving to the recliner after an hour or two. Then move around and try to get comfortable. That is why her sleep pattern is split up into a couple hours here and there. She said "it is just impossible to get comfortable".

When she was discharged, she was only in a small amount of pain. They had gotten her off of the stronger pain meds, and were giving her ibuprofen every 8 hours to manage it. That was knocking it down to the dull pain that it still is. She said it isn't really pain per say, it is just soreness and discomfort. So she tries to move around or roll over and try to get comfortable. She has tried to take the ibuprofen like she was taking in the hospital, and it doesn't seem to get rid of it. She also has prescription for stronger pain medicine and she has tried it, but it doesn't get rid of it either. We originally thought the soreness she was feeling was "back pain from her being hunched over for a few days".. but it is that same dull pain that she still has now. She hasn't been hunched over for several days. I have done some reading, and I think it is just inside her body being sore from what it just went thru, and it trying to regenerate her liver. I think it will just take a little time for things to quit being sore. It has only been a week and 2 days since her body went thru all of this.
We are trying a few other things to help alleviate the dull pain and make her more comfortable, and so far are having some success with them, so we will see how that progresses.
Other than the discomfort, she is doing really well. She is up and about. Checking the mail, doing some laundry, picking tomatoes (we did not plant a garden this year, but have 2 rogue tomato plants in the backyard), walking around outside, etc.. She does not over-do it, and she is taking it easy, but it is really good to see her up doing normal day to day things. She has been eating good too. Before she was discharged from the hospital, she had not really gotten her appetite back that good. It is back now and she is eating like normal.
All in all, things are going well. She has some times where she is sick of this dull discomfort that feels like her back, and she gets frustrated because she can't get comfortable enough to sleep. We are seeing some improvement in that with a few new things we are trying, so keep your fingers crossed.
Other than that, she is doing really well.
My "quick update" always turns into a book, so sorry, but if you want to follow along then reading is good for you anyways lol. Thanks for all the support from everyone.
