Liver Surgery - Post Op - Day 2
It is Sunday Oct 3 around lunch time. Yesterday I stayed here until around 4:30pm. I would have stayed longer but she was doing a lot of sleeping yesterday. I asked if she wanted to do a little video call with anyone from her family while I was here, and she didn't even have the energy to do that. As several people have said, sleep is good!!
Yesterday afternoon I ordered her some chicken broth and apple juice. She had a little of each.
I helper her up to get to the bathroom a few times, and we actually did one lap around the hallway yesterday. We took it slow, but she did great. When we got back to the room, she was pretty tired and went back to sleep.
She slept pretty good last night. She used the green button pain medicine some as needed thru the night.
She had the nurse help her to the bathroom a few times last night.
This morning when I got here, she was in the bathroom by herself. I asked her where the nurse was, and she said she was ok to get up by herself now, she just moves slow. She looked a lot more like herself this morning, and was not as much in a fog as the previous 2 days I could tell. She was also able to sit up in the bed more upright today. She was not able to do that yesterday at all. I can tell she is much more mobile today.
I ordered her some applesauce, jello, and sobe life water. She has had a little of that today. She just doesn't really have much of an appetite. I imagine that will start coming around more over the next few days.
She is really tired (sleeping as I write this).
When she wakes up, we might go for a walk or two around the hallway if she feels like it.
Update: we went for a pretty long walk all over the 9th floor. She did great. Back in the room hanging out.
The Dr. said she would be very fatigued for quite some time after the surgery. He said it is because her body is using most of its energy and protein to regenerate the liver. She is overly tired right now because of that, plus because the iv pain medicine makes her sleepy. I think as the pain subsides, and she doesn't need the pain meds as much moving forward, we will see her sleepiness be not as much as it is right now.
Well that is the update for last night and for so far today. It is really good to see slight improvement day by day. I told her, "we are thru the worst of it now, and everyday moving forward should be a little better than the previous day". Hopefully that holds true. She is very strong, and will be thru this before we know it.
