Chemo Treatment 8

Today Christian had her 8th chemo treatment.

The treatment went about the same as it has been the past few times. She slept thru most of it again as she got the IV Benadryl which makes her very sleepy.

Dr. Paluri was not there today, so Oliva (Dr. Paluri's APP) was meeting with patients instead.
Christian explained to Olivia that her cold sensitivity and neuropathy lingered further into her "off week" than it has been doing in the past.  Olivia said that since the general consensus for Christian's path forward was that she would hopefully be having a break from chemo after this cycle (explained below), we were going to stay the regular dosage of Oxali for this cycle.
If there was no break from chemo tentatively planned, she would more than likely reduce the dosage to help with how long those two side effects were hanging around.

They did end up reducing the 5-FU dosage slightly today, but it was because her labs showed that her platelets were a little low. They have been trending downward since she began getting chemo, but today they hit 80, which is the lowest they have been so far.

She had some friends (co-workers) visit her and bring her some lunch and hang out for a few today.

I don't think I have really explained this possible "chemo break for surgery" that well in previous posts.
I will do that now just so everyone has the info.
So we know that she just had chemo today.
-She has an MRI scheduled for Friday.
-She has CT Scans scheduled for next Monday morning.
-We will meet with Dr. Paluri next Monday afternoon to discuss the MRI & CT Images.
-Next Tuesday Dr. Paluri (and several other oncologists, surgeons, specialists) will have the Tumor Board Meeting and discuss Christians case. That is when they will define and decide Christians path forward.
-After the Tumor Board Meeting we will get a call from Dr. Paluri and he will tell us what that is.
-Right now, everyone is thinking that the outcome might be that she will be ready to have liver surgery.
This is where the "chemo break" idea is coming from. If she is indeed ready for liver surgery, she can't actually have the surgery until she has been "off chemo" for at least 4 weeks (that would be 4 weeks from today or so, I guess). Then, if they would do the surgery, and she would not have chemo for 6 weeks after that to recover. So that is the 10 week chemo break for surgery.

That is pretty much it for today. It was as Christian says "uneventful, but that is a good thing".
Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers, cards, gifts, etc..

We will continue needing your thoughts and prayers thru this week and next so we can get some good news on Tuesday afternoon on what they decide is the best path forward.

I will update later this week with how she is doing. Right now she is just hanging out on the couch in her comfy clothes. She is tired as it was a long day. She has little Franklin the eighth (5fu pump) hanging out with her. We will go get it disconnected on Wednesday afternoon.

Talk to ya later -Kenny
