Meeting with Oncologist, Chemotherapy Plan, Scheduling the Port Install
We met with Dr. Paluri on Monday April 26, 2021.
Before the consult, Christian had Labs done.
During the consult, Dr. Paluri went over what exact drugs the chemotherapy will be comprised of.
We also discussed when the treatments would begin, and how many cycles before getting a scan to check for response.
She is going to get 4 cycles at first, then we will re-scan. Each cycle is 2 weeks.
The first cycle is going to be Monday May 3, 2021 and it will be 2 chemo drugs.
She will receive Irinotecan as a drip infusion for 60-90 minutes.
She will receive 5-FU for 10 minutes or so, to make sure she handles it well. Then she will be given a small portable pump with the actual dosage of 5-FU that will slowly be administered over the next 46 hours. After that time has passed, we will go back to have it removed and the port flushed.
The 2nd Cycle of chemo (Monday May 17, 2021) will add a third chemo drug. That drug is Oxaliplatin.
She will continue those 3 drugs for the remaining 2 cycles after that, until the scan.
Before she can begin chemo on Monday, she will need to have her Port installed by IR.
That has been scheduled for today, Thursday April 29, 2021.
We will be heading to get that done shortly this morning. It is an outpatient procedure that should only keep her in the hospital for a few hours today.
