Chemo Treatment 6 - Day 1

It has been a little over a week since my last post on Sunday July 4th.
We went to hang out at Oak Hollow Lake for part of the day on the 4th with some of her family.
It was a fun afternoon with some good food, a few boat rides, etc..

The last treatment kicked her butt pretty bad as I said in previous posts. She started feeling it during the treatment that Monday June 28th, and didn't get back to 100% until Saturday July 3rd.

Last week (July 4 - July 10) was her "off week". She felt great that whole week and did a few things to help normalize life. She went to Hobby Lobby with one of her friends one afternoon. She went to eat dinner a couple times with some friends and family. We did a few things around here and ordered out and grilled out a few evenings. It was a good week.

Yesterday was treatment #6. We got to the hospital around 9:30am and got checked in.
She got her port accessed and her labs were drawn.
We met with Dr. Paluri and discussed her side effects and a few other things.

He told us that patients getting the chemo drug Oxaliplatin need to start being administered Benadryl around cycle 5, because the risk for an allergic reaction to that drug is higher after you have had it 4 times or more. So the IV Benadryl 25mg was added to her pre-meds list.

Her labs checked out as good, so we went to Pod D.

She began receiving her pre-meds (anti-nausea, etc..) including the IV Benadryl.
As soon as they pushed the Benadryl, she felt it immediately, and was ready to take a nap.
She closed her eyes and started dozing off.

Here is what pretty much all of yesterday looked like:

She had a couple visitors that popped in quietly to say hey, and drop off some lunch.
Christian would wake up and barely have her eyes open to say "hey" and then fall back asleep.
She slept from around 10:30am until around 1:30pm. When she woke up, she ate her lunch.

We still had a few hours of chemo to go, so she played on her phone for a little bit and took another nap.

We got all done around 4:15pm. They hooked up the 5FU Pump (Franklin the 6th) and we were on our way home.

We got home, and she was still feeling tired, which is a mix of the Benadryl sleepiness, and the chemo fatigue. She laid on the couch and watched some TV. I got her dinner ready and brought it to her, and she ate it, and some snacks. She put some gloves on because her hands were sensitive to cold things (like the buttons on the side of the couch).

It was a long day yesterday, so we went to bed a little earlier (right around 9pm).

I am sure that most of this week, she will be pretty tired and without much energy. Mostly resting on the couch. I will put up a new post in a few days with an update on that, unless something happens that warrants an earlier post.

I did get the next two treatments scheduled, along with the MRI, CT Scans, and Onc Appt.

July 26:    Treatment #7
Aug 9:      Treatment #8
Aug 13:    Liver MRI
Aug 16:    Abdomen & Pelvis CT Scans
Aug 16:    Meeting with Dr. Paluri to discuss scan images
Aug 17:    Dr. Paluri & Teams will discuss her case at the Tumor Board Meeting & form a plan
Aug 18:    Dr. Paluri will call us to discuss the path forward

Thanks for all the support from everyone. It is helping her be strong through this.
